Darkwatch: Arbiters of the Damned OOC
Evil... As old as time...
The distant cry of the abrupt severance of a poor girl's life was but the first of the many sounds of death to plague the simple town of Rustbucket. Mere minutes afterward, the entirety of the settlement found itself engulf in the flames of Hell.
Spreads like a plague... Corrupting the hearts of Men...
A mere human child sobbed uncontrollably as her dear father began to convulse. The house burned down around them, but it mattered not to the girl. Only the aliment that assailed her guardian was met with concern in her mind.
And then, the man abruptly stopped convulsing, the bite marks all over his body beginning to glow a fiery color. The former tears of worry ceased as the girl faced her father... or rather, what her father had become...
Seconds later, another agonized scream joined the clamor of death that ran rampant within the town.
For millenia, there have been those who stood against it...
A humble barmaid found herself running for her life as she was hounded by the hellspawns, the creatures of the undead. Far too concerned with the creatures that would see her demise, she made the unfortunate blunder of looking over her shoulder. not seeing the piece of debris before her.
Her foot was caught, and she fell to her hands and knees with a yelp leaving the young female's vocals. Dazed by the jarring fall, she groggily turned around to face... them.
Eyes widened in fear and despair as the undead quickly moved to pounce on her, clearly intending to rip her to shreds. A final cry left the girl's throat as she threw her hands before her in a futile attempt to defend herself.
... Yet the expected assault never came; only the sounds of several gunshots, followed by deathly wails.
A secret organization... To protect mankind...
Just as soon as the reign of death and destruction bombarded the simple town, it was fought back. Violently. Efficiently.
A single man, clad in bold black and sanctified silver, stood in front of the barmaid. It was he that has felled the damned creatures of the night that would have made the female their next victim. A glowing orb replaced what was once a left eyes, and the man's grizzled features was distorted by a prominent snarl; as such, his rather long upper canines were clearly revealed, as well as the indirect fact of his inhumanity.
He looked up as more of them sprouted from the earth.
They are the front line in an unholy war...
His designated tool of judgment at the ready, the man smite down creature after creature, the blessed projectiles ripping through them as if they were but mere sheets of parchment. Not one of the creatures that challenged him lived for more than a single moment at a time, and soon there would be none left.
They are...
The barmaid looked up, her gaze in half-admiration and half-fear as the man turned to face the young one. "You... You killed them all without so much as a bead of sweat... Who are you...?
The man replied with but his name.
"... Jericho Cross."

... The Darkwatch.
- The Legend:
The Darkwatch has origins going as far back as the end of the Roman era; it turns out that the once great empire had fallen to vampires, rather than structural weaknesses. The organization exists under the grid, and has seen many advances in technology - far surpassing the modern technology of its current time period.
It is now the year 1876, and Arizona Territory is far from unfamiliar with the undead. As such, it also serves as the location of the Darthwatch HQ, which is led by Brigadier General Clay Cartwright.
You are the newest members of this secret organization. The front line, the shield of the human world. It is your duty to protect all of mankind - or die trying.
- The Main Man:
Gunslinger. Outlaw. Vampire.
Jericho Cross is a bitter veteran of the Civil War, and was an infamous outlaw before joining the Darkwatch. During his "one last job" on a train, he released Lazarus Malkoth from his prison in a failed attempt to steal the contents; in what seemed to be a gesture of mercy, the ancient vampire had bitten the outlaw, turning him into a vampire.
Aided by Cassidy Sharp - even from the netherworld following her untimely death - Cross had travelled all across the West in an attempt to end the curse that had befallen him. He managed to kill both Lazarus and Tala - an old fling gone rogue - and ended the curse that had haunted him. Still, he retained his vampiric powers though he lost his weaknesses, and is the best of the best in the war against the undead.
His main weapons are dual Redeemers and a Carbine, though he can utilize any and all other weapons.
- The Tools:
Redeemer Revolver
Young Darkwatch engineering students are required to study the innovative blueprint for the Redeemer. Its indigenous design ejects expended cylinders through the breech while feeding loaded cylinders into the muzzle. By fanning the hammer, you can discharge many rounds rapidly, and then quickly reload by replacing the clip. The careful balance between accuracy, rate of fire, and power make the Redeemer a standard firearm for Darkwatch Regulators. Like any pistol, however, it has neither the stopping power nor long range accuracy of most rifles.
Blackfish Carbine
Darkwatch engineers modified a musket into a beach-loading repeater to create the Blackfish Carbine. The Blackfish can be reloaded quickly and has good range and stopping power without too much recoil. Its heft and bladed handle make it a fine choice for close quarters combat.
Argus Shotgun
Darkwatch engineers modified a musket into a beach-loading repeater to create the Blackfish Carbine. The Blackfish can be reloaded quickly and has good range and stopping power without too much recoil. Its heft and bladed handle make it a fine choice for close quarters combat.
Carson Range Rifle
The Carson Range Rifle is designed to maximize range at the expense of all else. Its long barrel makes it impossible to conceal and awkward to carry. It bears a fragile 5 lb. scope that provides a great view of distant enemies but less than 6" point of reference.
Dual Crossbow
In the 19th century, the Darkwatch used arrows as platforms for powerful explosives that were too heavy and unstable to fire from normal pistols and rifles. The Dual Crossbow was designed to get the most from these explosive arrows. Perhaps the most unusual aspect of this crossbow is the presence simultaneously.
Rail Rocket
Developed from a naval signal cannon, the Rail Rocket fires explosive mortars at a fair distance. To compensate for its inability to be fired at close range (without blowing you up), the Rail Rocket has the weight and blade of a formidable melee weapon. Although mortars move slowly enough to give distant enemies time to take evasive action, you can steer a mortar in flight.
